The Providence Animal Rescue League is a private, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1913.

General Position Summary: The ACCA will be responsible for the daily care of shelter animals and the processing of appointments and adoptions through the reception desk.

Experience working with small animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs is a plus!

The ACCA will work at the reception desk during open hours, answering phone calls, booking in new animals, facilitating adoptions, and assisting with other community programs as needed. This position requires the ability to work independently and also as a member of a team, a positive attitude, and strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities Include:

 Feeding, cleaning of animals and building as needed, including spot cleaning of animal and public areas throughout the day.

 Preparing animals for adoption (including, but not limited to: taking pictures, writing profiles, editing computer database, and completing paperwork)

 Monitoring the health of the animals on an ongoing basis and immediately reporting any health problems or conditions (medical or behavioral) to Clinic or Management.

 Working with, training and supervising volunteers

 Willingness and ability to learn the PetPoint computer database program used to track animals in the shelter.

 Willingness and ability to learn about cat, dog, and small animal behavior, common issues, and ways to address them in order to advise pet owners and to keep animals in homes.

 Treating all animals and people humanely, properly, and with compassion at all times, regardless of the situation or circumstance.

 Working courteously and cooperatively with other staff members, volunteers, and the public.

Specific Job Skills:

 Strong interpersonal skills. The ideal person for this job would be personable, outgoing, patient, professional, and able to get along well with a variety of people.

 Experience with animal care specifically that of small animals.

 Excellent written and oral communications skills.

 Ability and initiative, working with minimal supervision and direction..

 Flexibility, ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize them.

 The ability to remain pleasant and calm even in stressful situations.

 Comfort and ability to work with animals of unknown disposition and those who may exhibit medical and/or other problems, as well as aggressive tendencies. Physical Requirements:

 Physical ability to walk and/or stand on your feet throughout a normal workday required.

 Physical ability to engage in repetitive motions of legs, arms, and hands, to hear, to see, to move animals and materials.

 Allergic conditions, which would be aggravated when handling or working with animals, or hay, may be a disqualification.

 Ability to lift 50 pounds

Educational Requirements: Two years of volunteer or work experience with animals preferred.

Details: 24hrs (3 days a week) or 32hrs (4 days a week). Availability and a willingness to work a flexible schedule are a plus. Includes weekend and holiday work. Must be at least 18 years of age and have valid driver’s license. $10.10 per hour, DOE.
