Catskill Animal Sanctuary seeks a full-time Communications Associate for our Saugerties, NY location. Reporting to the Communications Manager, this position plays an important role in developing the Sanctuary’s visibility and overall growth. The associate will focus on generating content (photos, videos, and draft posts) for our growing social media communities. As well as, working to develop online media and printed collateral for the organization’s events, programs and services.  The ideal candidate will have solid writing and editing skills, as well as outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills.  They will also be helping implement a variety of PR, marketing and media collateral.  Due to the complexities and demands of this position, the associate is expected to work on-site.
Who We Are:

Catskill Animal Sanctuary is a 148-acre refuge in New York’s Hudson Valley for eleven species of farmed animals rescued from cruelty, neglect, and abandonment opened in 2001 by founders Kathy Stevens and Jesse Moore. In addition to direct animal aid, the Sanctuary offers signature programming aimed at encouraging our guests and the world at large to adopt a plant-based lifestyle.  Programing includes customized tours, a vegan cooking program, mentor and youth leadership programs, which are positioned to become national models. In addition to programming, the historical Homestead building serves as a Bed and Breakfast venue for guests to enjoy a more in-depth and personal experience of the Sanctuary.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Shoot and edit weekly photos and videos
  • Draft and schedule posts across social media channels consistent with the organization’s voice and mission
  • Stay informed on animal rights issues and suggest ideas for the organization’s blog
  • Proofread and copyedit blog posts and newsletter articles
  • Ensure communications remain consistent across channels
  • Participate in creating donor correspondence (thank you emails, letters) and media pitches
  • Maintain media contact management and subscriber database
  • Create and send out monthly email newsletter through MailChimp
  • Perform content updates to the website in conjunction with the web developer/IT vendor
  • Track and analyze key metrics for all social media accounts
  • Work closely with multiple departments
  • Update local event calendars

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in marketing or communications preferred
  • 1-3 years’ experience in marketing, communications or similar, preferably with a nonprofit
  • Strong writing skills and attention to details
  • Well organized and can work independently, as well as within teams
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple, simultaneous projects and deadlines
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube) and best practices associated with each pathway
  • Working knowledge and experience with Photoshop and video editing software
  • Proficiency in WordPress or other CMS
  • Strong familiarity with veganism and animal rights movements, specifically farmed animals

 

This is a salaried positon at $35,000. Benefit package includes healthcare, PTO, paid vacation, and flexible work week.
