Website Kauai Humane Society

The Kauai Humane Society, an independent non-profit open admission shelter, is seeking an innovative, experienced, exceptional leader to be the next Executive Director.  Nationally recognized for our innovative programs to further adoptions, Kauai Humane Society yields over 1,000 pet placements each year.  Our hard working team of 35 employees spans animal care, customer service, veterinary services, development and special events, finance, animal control and education. Together with a committed Board of Directors and dedicated volunteers, community and local business partners, KHS is primed for even greater success ahead.

Kauai Humane Society’s Board of Directors is seeking a dynamic and innovative Executive Director who is able to be the spokesperson for the organization as well as managing daily shelter operations. The Executive Director will provide leadership, manage and motivate staff and volunteers, build effective teams, promote fundraising, encourage community involvement in addition to administrative functions and financial management.  The ideal candidate will be willing to “get their hands dirty” by jumping in to help staff on occasion as needed.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, our new Executive Director will:

·         FACE THE CHALLENGES! (Kauai’s Unique Circumstances)

o       As the only open intake shelter on a small island, we need a pioneer to find new ways to save more

of Kauai’s animals while operating within our resources.

o       Kauai has a large feral cat population with endangered and federally protected birds. A number of groups are passionate about both sides of this issue; we need a leader who can think in new ways and work cooperatively with other animal welfare groups to find the balance for all Kauai’s species.

We seek someone with:

·         5+ years professional experience with at least 3 years as a senior manager or executive director. Non-

·         Ability to be a servant leader who is more concerned with what he/she has to offer rather that what you will

get from the organization

passionate community members.
