Major Gifts Manager

Website Liberty Humane Society

Job Overview/Summary:

Liberty Humane Society is embarking on a new phase of growth. We are transitioning from a small home-grown animal shelter to a more robust mid-sized agency focused on long-term capital development and community service expansion. Our primarily individual donor-based development program was designed to meet the funding needs of existing animal shelter operations, but we have yet to lay the groundwork and implement the systems necessary for radical growth.

LHS seeks a dynamic, strategic, and hands-on Major Gifts Officer to grab this program by the horns and maximize individual and business support for Liberty Humane Society. In collaboration with the Executive Director and development staff (2), this Officer will assess and implement program changes designed to build the relationships and infrastructure necessary to cultivate gifts of $10k or more, while meeting financial benchmarks.

This individual will become a part of a small, dedicated team expected to meet ambitious revenue targets and devise, monitor and analyze results of initiatives and metrics to guide the investment of future resources. They will be expected to understand the needs and performance of diverse donors and prospects, communicate and collaborate with all organizational staff, business partners and supporters, think strategically, make recommendations, offer creative solutions and manage systems to continually grow and improve the LHS’s donor relationships and prospecting.

This financial wrangler must be comfortable working in a politicized environment with multiple stakeholders who many not share their same background or educational experiences. Jersey City is the second most diverse city in the country; composure, confidence and empathy in communicating with people of all experiences and beliefs is a must.

* Assess LHS’s existing development plan, tools, and objectives and provide recommendations to the Executive Director based on organizational and program objectives;

* Create a cultivation plan for soliciting and stewarding and major donors and prospects, including personalized communications and face-to-face visits, tracking progress utilizing NationBuilder and other software applications
