Dane County Humane Society’s Animal Medical Services department is looking for a Shelter Veterinarian to join our team! DCHS is a progressive open-admissions animal shelter located in Madison, WI.

Madison is a vibrant community full of culture that regularly ranks in the top 20 places to live.

Veterinary care decisions for the approximately 9,000 animals that pass through our doors lie in the hands of the DCHS medical team.

Intake includes felines, canines, rabbits, pocket pets, exotic species, livestock and orphaned or injured wildlife.

The shelter veterinarian is responsible for performing all veterinary services for shelter animals, maximizing the use of clinic resources to ensure animal resident health at a minimum cost; providing medical and surgical care as well as humane care and treatment of all animals in accordance with the policies and procedures established by DCHS and the State laws of Wisconsin; assisting with the supervision and training of University of Wisconsin (UW) veterinary students on Ambulatory Rotation and UW–DCHS Maddie’s® Shelter Medicine Interns. DCHS has a strong partnership with the University of Wisconsin Veterinary School that affords DCHS access to specialists for consultations and volunteer surgical assistance.

An ideal candidate would be proficient in high quality, high volume spay/neuter and dentistry.

Equine/livestock experience a plus.

We are looking for a team-oriented individual with a strong work ethic, positive attitude, good communication skills and critical evaluation and observation skills.

Must enjoy teaching and working with a variety of people with different skill levels.
