Are you a talented Grant Writer looking to use your skills for a cause you are passionate about? The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is looking for a full-time Grant Writer to join our growing development team working at our Milwaukee Campus! WHS is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation with four operating locations, a budget of approximately $8 million, and a four-star rating from Charity Navigator.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage grant submission and accountability reporting
  • Conduct prospect research and writing, developing, and packaging grant proposals to funders
  • Maximize WHS programs and initiatives to engage funders and revenue
  • Work closely with program staff to ensure effective use of donor dollars

About Us

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is the oldest and largest shelter in Wisconsin. It was founded in 1879 and operates shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee and Racine Counties, as well as a Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis. The organization offers adoption services, educational programming, and veterinary resources for animals from low-income households, retail stores, volunteer programs and dog training classes. The Milwaukee shelter also houses the state’s busiest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. WHS is an independent nonprofit and receives no general government funding and is not part of any national umbrella group.

Qualifications – An enthusiastic and committed professional with the following experience and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3 years of experience in grant writing
  • Experience working in a non-profit development department preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Commitment to treat animals and people with respect and kindness
